Job Description
Department: Technical Services / Maintenance
Location: The Pacific Sutera Hotel, Kota Kinabalu
Reports To: Technical Services Manager / Assistant Manager
Position Summary
The Technician is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on hotel facilities, equipment, and systems.
This role ensures a safe, well-maintained, and fully functional environment for guests and employees, while supporting the smooth operation of the hotel’s daily activities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance & Repair
Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on hotel equipment, guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities.
Perform repair work on electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and other building systems as assigned.
Ensure all equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
2. Guest Room Maintenance
Respond to guest room maintenance requests promptly and professionally.
Troubleshoot and repair issues such as lighting, air-conditioning, plumbing, and furniture defects.
Ensure guest rooms meet hotel standards before occupancy.
3. Preventive Maintenance
Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance on key equipment and building systems.
Record and update maintenance logs and service reports.
Identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions.
4. Safety & Compliance
Follow hotel safety policies, engineering SOPs, and local regulatory requirements.
Ensure all maintenance work is performed safely and with minimal disruption to guests.
Report hazards, faulty equipment, or unsafe conditions immediately.
5. Coordination & Communication
Work closely with Front Office, Housekeeping, and other departments to resolve maintenance issues.
Communicate daily tasks and findings to the Engineering Supervisor.
Support team members in projects and hotel-wide maintenance initiatives.
Skill Requirement
1. Technical Skills
Basic knowledge of electrical systems, panel boards, lighting, and wiring
Understanding of plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, valves, and drainage
Ability to perform mechanical and HVAC troubleshooting (air-conditioning, motors, pumps)
Familiarity with carpentry, painting, and general building repair
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and safety guidelines
2. Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving Skills
Strong diagnostic skills for identifying equipment issues
Ability to recommend and execute effective repair solutions
Quick thinking to handle urgent maintenance situations or guest room issues
3. Equipment Handling Skills
Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment safely
Basic understanding of preventive maintenance equipment and procedures
Ability to maintain tools and machinery in good working condition
4. Communication & Coordination Skills
Able to communicate clearly with guests, supervisors, and colleagues
Able to coordinate with departments such as Housekeeping, Front Office, and Security
Ability to document repair work, maintenance reports, and daily checklists accurately
5. Safety Awareness
Knowledge of workplace safety standards and safe work practices
Understanding of hazard identification and emergency response procedures
Ability to follow hotel safety SOPs and regulatory requirements
6. Time Management & Multitasking
Ability to prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance
Manage multiple maintenance requests effectively
Work efficiently under minimal supervision
7. Physical Fitness
Able to perform manual tasks such as lifting, climbing, carrying, and long-hour standing
Fit to work in various environments (outdoors, rooftops, confined spaces)
8. Teamwork & Work Attitude
Positive and proactive attitude toward maintenance responsibilities
Cooperative and supportive with colleagues
Willingness to learn and adapt to new systems or equipment
Qualication / Certification Requirement
Qualifications & Requirements
Certificate or Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Building Maintenance, or related technical field.
Minimum 1–2 years of working experience in building maintenance or similar environment (hotel experience is an advantage).
Basic knowledge of electrical systems, plumbing, mechanical equipment, and tools.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently.
Physically fit and able to handle manual and hands-on tasks.
Willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Good teamwork, communication skills, and a positive work attitude.
